Dear Peighton,
I haven't written enough about your unbelievable personality and character. You love to sing and dance more than anyone I know (well, except for maybe your mother). We love to sing and dance together more than anything. You are acceptionally good at it too! In fact, Henry's mom, Katie, watched you do your rendition of "Let It Go" from Frozen (which is your absolute favorite movie right now) and she couldn't stop talking about how good you were and how she couldn't believe you could carry a tune like that. I even taped you singing along to it to send into Good Morning America for a contest. Please remind me to show it to you.
While you love to be charismatic and full of entertainment in the comfort of your own home, you don't necessarily like attention from other people and you certainly don't like people clapping for you. For example, at your "graduation" from your last session of gymnastics, you put on a show for the parents. At the end of the show, you all received ribbons at the podium. You, however, would not go up and receive your ribbon and started to cry. I found this surprising because you loved your class so much and were constantly used as an example of how to do something for the other children (which made me very proud). When I asked you why you didn't want to go up, you said you really didn't like the clapping.
So, needless to say, I was worried about signing you up for a dance class even though I knew you would love it. I was skeptical of the recital piece of a dance class. I fear you might not participate. Most dance classes are expensive but I recently came across one through the Cumberland Recreation Department and decide to give it at try. The class was yesterday and you LOVED it! When we were leaving you asked if you could go back tomorrow. You wore a pink leotard with pink tights and a pink tutu. You loved wearing your tap shoes too. When we got there, your teacher, Julie, explained to the parents that we were not allowed to stay and watch because it causes distractions. I was surprised but understood. I was also slightly disappointed because I wanted to watch you dance. Luckily, I got to peek in the window here and there to see you in action. You did so well on your own. It made me realize how big you have gotten. Sometimes I want to stop the clock but I also realize that each new phase of your life brings me a new type of joy. Watching you in a dance class having fun gave me a nice warm feeling, that's for sure!
I love you,
Mom

Art Supplies
Dear Peighton,
Every time I read a post from this blog it reminds me how important it is to continue writing, especially now that you are a little older and the funniest things come out of your mouth on a moment to moment basis. I am going to try to post at least a couple of times a week. I figure if I tell you that, I might hold myself accountable.
Tonight I had a nice little chuckle to myself while I was cleaning up. I noticed that you suitcase was still full from last weeks overnight at Rosie and Tubbsy's house. Ever since January, you have been going to their house every Thursday after school. We started this because your grandparents gave me the gift at Christmas of picking you up from school and spending the afternoon and evening with you. They knew I was feeling very guilty of not giving you the attention you needed (because Phoebe came along about a month before Christmas) and they decided the best gift would be to take you on adventures once a week. It has morphed into weekly overnights at their house which is great for you because you will remember that precious time with them forever. Anyway, tonight, as I was opening your suitcase to empty it in preparation for a possible overnight with them again tomorrow, I was laughing at you adorable personality. Now, I could write forever about all you amazing personality traits (and I will as I continue to post) but for now, I will just tell you about what was in the suitcase. I remember last week when you were getting ready, I told you to pack your suitcase and make sure to put in any toys you wanted. Usually, you bring a Barbie to two and call it good but last week you ran to your art cabinet and filled that suitcase with as much of your art supplies as possible. You had paint, brushes, markers, wooden eggs that were there to be painted, wrapping paper that you had adopted as almost a coloring book because it had squares on the back, cards, artwork you had previously done, and much more. You had packed that suitcase so full you could barely shut it. I failed to ask Rosie if you even used any of it but it doesn't really matter, you were one hundred percent convinced that you absolutely had to bring all of that stuff to their house. Hilarious!
I love you,
Mom
