Dance Class

Dear Peighton,

I haven't written enough about your unbelievable personality and character.  You love to sing and dance more than anyone I know (well, except for maybe your mother).  We love to sing and dance together more than anything.  You are acceptionally good at it too!  In fact, Henry's mom, Katie, watched you do your rendition of "Let It Go" from Frozen (which is your absolute favorite movie right now) and she couldn't stop talking about how good you were and how she couldn't believe you could carry a tune like that.  I even taped you singing along to it to send into Good Morning America for a contest.  Please remind me to show it to you.

While you love to be charismatic and full of entertainment in the comfort of your own home, you don't necessarily like attention from other people and you certainly don't like people clapping for you.  For example, at your "graduation" from your last session of gymnastics, you put on a show for the parents.  At the end of the show, you all received ribbons at the podium.  You, however, would not go up and receive your ribbon and started to cry.  I found this surprising because you loved your class so much and were constantly used as an example of how to do something for the other children (which made me very proud).  When I asked you why you didn't want to go up, you said you really didn't like the clapping.

So, needless to say, I was worried about signing you up for a dance class even though I knew you would love it.  I was skeptical of the recital piece of a dance class.  I fear you might not participate.  Most dance classes are expensive but I recently came across one through the Cumberland Recreation Department and decide to give it at try.  The class was yesterday and you LOVED it!  When we were leaving you asked if you could go back tomorrow.  You wore a pink leotard with pink tights and a pink tutu.  You loved wearing your tap shoes too.  When we got there, your teacher, Julie, explained to the parents that we were not allowed to stay and watch because it causes distractions.  I was surprised but understood.  I was also slightly disappointed because I wanted to watch you dance.  Luckily, I got to peek in the window here and there to see you in action.  You did so well on your own.  It made me realize how big you have gotten.  Sometimes I want to stop the clock but I also realize that each new phase of your life brings me a new type of joy.  Watching you in a dance class having fun gave me a nice warm feeling, that's for sure!

I love you,

Mom
